De façon plus formelle, on désigne les personnes par leur titre, lié à la caste et, en principe héréditaire mais avec quelques incohérences. Le titre implique tout un code de comportement concernant aussi bien la façon de s’habiller que de manger, de se marier ou de pratiquer la crémation. Ces titres sont : Gus Aji, Dewa Aji, pour les hommes de la caste des Brahmanes et Ksatrya, I Ratu et Jero Mangku pour les prêtres.
